NEO IMMERSION-TDJ line up
Statt einer üblichen Dj Bio habe ich den Marathon DJs Fragen gestellt. Rather than writing a conventional DJ bio, I sat down with the Marathon DJs and asked them some questions.

TDJ Jean-Marc – Schweiz, Switzerland
1. Was bedeutet IMMERSION für dich als TDJ? What does immersion mean to you as a TDJ?
Als DJ, VJ und Lichtdesigner ist es mir wichtig, eine Geschichte zu erzählen – nicht nur mit Musik, sondern auch mit Licht.
As a DJ, VJ and Light Designer, it’s important to me to tell a story using not only music but also light. I work with synesthesia, to create an smooth immersive experience.
2. Was verbindet NEO-NON Contemporary Musik mit der Heilandskirche aus deiner Sicht? What connects NEO-NON Contemporary Music with the Heilandskirche for you?
Ich hatte bereits das Vergnügen, an Silvester 2022 in einer Kirche in Freiburg im Breisgau als DJ aufzulegen. Es ist ein magisches Erlebnis, an einem solch heiligen Ort mit wunderbarer Akustik zu arbeiten.
I already had the pleasure to DJ in a Church in Freiburg i. B., for New Year’s Eve 2022.
It’s a magical experience to work in such a sacred place with beautiful acoustics.
TDJ Beata – Polen, Poland
1. Was bedeutet IMMERSION für dich als TDJ? What does immersion mean to you as a TDJ?
Immersion ist etwas Allumfassendes; man kann in Musik, Tanz, Gedanken, die Verbindung mit einem Partner, Kontemplation oder Meditation eintauchen, und Tanz ist schließlich Meditation in Bewegung. Mit meiner Musikauswahl möchte ich die Menschen auf eine Reise durch verschiedene Emotionen und Stimmungen mitnehmen. Ich liebe es, Tänzerinnen und Tänzer dabei zu beobachten, wie sie ganz im Tanz aufgehen, wenn Bewegung und Verbindung zum Ausdruck dessen werden, was ihnen die Musik vermittelt – eine Art Magie im wirklichen Leben. Als ich den Gardel-Preis als Musicalizadora in Polen entgegennahm, sagte ich, dass das Wichtigste im Tanz ist, dem zu folgen, was man auf der Tanzfläche wirklich fühlt.
Immersion is something all-encompassing, you can immerse yourself in music, in dance, in thoughts, in connection with a partner, in contemplation or meditation, and dance is, after all, meditation in movement. Through my choice of music, I want to take people on a journey through different emotions and moods. I love watching dancers become completely immersed in the dance, when movement and connection become an expression of what the music inspires in them – a kind of real-life magic. When I received the Gardel Award as a Musicalizador in Poland, I said that the most important thing in dance is to follow what you truly feel on the dance floor.

Es hat etwas Außergewöhnliches, Tango an einem Ort zu tanzen, der Zeuge menschlicher Gebete, Hoffnungen, bewegender Momente und bedeutender Lebensereignisse war. Diese besondere Energie lässt einen ganz natürlich langsamer werden und intensiver auf die eigenen Gefühle, den Tanzpartner und die Musik hören. Einen Ort der Stille mit moderner Musik zu füllen, hat etwas zugleich Aufregendes und ein wenig Verbotenes daran :). Vielleicht hilft gerade dieser Kontrast dabei, alle Emotionen im Tanz freizusetzen – wie eine Art Beichte in Bewegung? Ich bin sehr gespannt darauf, wie dieser Ort auf mich und die Tangueros wirken wird.
There is something extraordinary about dancing tango in a place that has witnessed people’s prayers, hopes, deep emotions, and important moments in life. That energy has a way of making you slow down naturally, listen more closely to your own feelings, your partner, and the music. Filling a place of silence with contemporary music carries something both exciting and slightly sinful about it. Perhaps this contrast will help release every emotion hidden within the dance, becoming a kind of confession in motion? I am very curious to discover how this place will affect me and the tangueros who share this experience.
TDJ Thierry – Frankreich, France
1. Was bedeutet IMMERSION für dich als TDJ? What does immersion mean to you as a TDJ?
Ich bin ein sehr emotionaler Mensch. Emotionale Sensibilität ist etwas sehr Persönliches, und als DJ wähle ich die meisten meiner Stücke vor allem deshalb aus, weil sie mein Herz berühren. Für mich bedeutet Immersion beim Tanzen, eins zu werden – mit der Musik, dem Herzen, dem Körper, dem Tanzpartner und der Energie, die einen umgibt. Als DJ bedeutet Immersion, die Emotionen, die die von mir ausgewählte Musik in mir auslöst, mit der Energie der Tanzfläche und des Raumes zu verbinden und daraus einen stimmigen, fließenden musikalischen Bogen entstehen zu lassen. Manchmal fällt es mir unglaublich schwer, das DJ-Pult nicht zu verlassen und gemeinsam mit den anderen Tänzerinnen und Tänzern auf die Tanzfläche zu gehen.
I am a deeply emotional person. Emotional sensitivity is something very personal, but as a DJ, most of the music I choose is simply music that touches my heart. To me, immersion in dance means becoming one with the music, with your heart, your body, your partner, and the energy that surrounds you. As a DJ, immersion means blending the emotions the music awakens in me with the energy of the dance floor and the space around it, creating one coherent and evolving flow. Sometimes, it is incredibly difficult not to leave the DJ booth and join the dancers on the floor.

NEO-NON Contemporary Music bietet eine außergewöhnliche Vielfalt an Musikstilen, Emotionen und Intensitäten. Als DJ liebe ich es besonders, die Tänzerinnen und Tänzer auf eine musikalische Reise mitzunehmen – von gefühlvollen Liedern, die direkt die Seele berühren, bis hin zu kraftvollen, mitreißenden Tracks voller Dynamik und wunderschöner Melodien. Ich könnte mir keinen besseren Ort als eine Kirche vorstellen, um die Musik zu spielen, die mein Herz am tiefsten berührt. Ein Ort für eintönige oder ausdruckslose Musik ist das ganz sicher nicht!
NEO-NON Contemporary Music embraces an incredible diversity of genres, emotions, and energy. As a DJ, I especially love taking dancers on a journey—from intimate songs that speak directly to the soul to powerful, uplifting tracks filled with dynamic changes, always carried by beautiful melodies. I couldn’t have imagined a better place than a church to share the music that moves me most deeply. This is definitely not a place for flat or uninspiring songs!

1. Was bedeutet IMMERSION für dich als TDJ? What does immersion mean to you as a TDJ?
Immersion im Tango ist der Moment, in dem wir das Vertraute hinter uns lassen. Wenn wir so tief in die Verbindung mit der Musik, unserem Partner, der Schwerkraft, dem Raum und den Tänzer:innen um uns herum eintauchen können, dass die normale Welt in den Hintergrund tritt. Unser Selbstgefühl erweitert sich und wir fühlen uns als Teil von etwas Größerem – einer Art leuchtendem Bewusstsein.
Immersion in tango is the moment when we leave the familiar behind. When we can drop so deeply into the connection with the music, our partner, gravity, the space, and the dancers around us that the normal world drops away. Our sense of self expands and we feel part of something larger, a kind of luminous awareness.
2. Was verbindet NEO-NON Contemporary Musik mit der Heilandskirche aus deiner Sicht? What connects NEO-NON Contemporary Music with the Heilandskirche for you?
Neo- und alternative Musik für den Tango ging für mich schon immer darum, unerwartete Schönheit zu entdecken. Und ich kann mir keinen schöneren Ort zum Tanzen vorstellen, als wenn unsere Musik in dieser alten Kirche erklingt. Die Heilandskirche ist nicht einfach nur ein Veranstaltungsort – sie wird zu einem weiteren Instrument. Ihre Architektur, ihre Akustik und ihre besondere Stille werden jeden Ton und auch jede Pause prägen. Die Musik, die wir am meisten lieben, erforscht den Raum und die Textur genauso sehr wie die Melodie. Und genau deshalb fühlt sich dieser Ort perfekt an, um sie gemeinsam mit unseren alten und neuen Freund:innen zu erleben.
Neo and alternative music for tango has always been about discovering unexpected beauty, and I can’t imagine a more beautiful space to dance than with our music resonating in this old church. The Heilandskirche isn’t just a venue; it will become another instrument. Its architecture, acoustics, and sense of stillness will shape every note and every silence. The music we love most often explores space and texture as much as melody, and this feels like a perfect place to experience it with our friends, both old and new.
TDJ Gökhan – Berlin, Germany
1. Was bedeutet IMMERSION für dich als TDJ? What does immersion mean to you as a TDJ?
Immersion bedeutet für mich, die Tänzerinnen und Tänzer auf eine musikalische Reise voller Energie, Verbindung und Überraschungen mitzunehmen. Es ist der Moment, in dem man aufhört zu denken und sich völlig dem Tanzfluss hingibt. Schon damals, als ich die Atmosphäre im „Candle Room“ mitgestalten durfte, habe ich gemerkt: Immersion entsteht, wenn man einen schützenden musikalischen Raum aufbaut, der Seele und Körper gleichzeitig berührt und in dem Raum und Zeit für einen Moment verschwinden.
For me, immersion means taking the dancers on a musical journey full of energy, connection, and surprises. It is that specific moment when you stop thinking and completely surrender to the flow of the dance. Ever since my early days co-creating the atmosphere in the „Candle Room,“ I realized that immersion happens when you build a safe musical space that touches both the soul and the body simultaneously, causing space and time to simply fade away.
2. Was verbindet NEO-NON Contemporary Musik mit der Heilandskirche aus deiner Sicht? What connects NEO-NON Contemporary Music with the Heilandskirche for you?
Mein Motto als DJ lautet: „Music for both the soul and the body.“ Die Heilandskirche verkörpert für mich genau diese Balance. Die sakrale, historische Atmosphäre und die hohen Bögen sprechen die Seele an, während die kraftvollen Beats der Neo-Musik den Körper in Bewegung versetzen. Dieser Kontrast – die tiefe Spiritualität des Raumes auf der einen Seite und die moderne, emotionale Tiefe der Musik auf der anderen erzeugt eine unglaubliche Spannung, die den Klang regelrecht physisch spürbar macht.
My motto as a DJ is: „Music for both the soul and the body.“ For me, the Heilandskirche perfectly embodies this balance. The sacred, historical atmosphere and high arches speak to the soul, while the powerful beats of Neo-music move the body. This contrast the deep spirituality of the space on one hand, and the modern, emotional depth of the music on the other creates an incredible tension that makes the sound feel truly physical.
TDJ Kris Tangovida – Berlin, Germany
1. Was bedeutet IMMERSION für dich als TDJ? What does immersion mean to you as a TDJ?
Für mich bedeutet Immersion, wenn die Musik irgendwann mehr wird als nur der Sound im Hintergrund. Wenn die Tänzer wirklich in die Musik eintauchen und man merkt, dass sie zuhören, reagieren und sich von ihr bewegen lassen. Als TDJ geht es für mich darum, einen musikalischen Raum zu schaffen, in dem genau das passieren kann. Ich möchte Musik spielen, die Aufmerksamkeit erzeugt, aber nicht vorgibt, wie man tanzen muss. Im besten Fall vergessen die Tänzer für einen Moment alles um sich herum und sind einfach in der Musik, in ihrem Tanz und miteinander. Immersion bedeutet für mich also vor allem: präsent sein, zuhören und sich auf den Moment einlassen.
For me, immersion is when the music becomes more than just the sound in the background. When the dancers really dive into the music and you can see that they are listening, responding, and allowing themselves to be moved by it. As a TDJ, my role is to create a musical space where exactly that can happen. I want to play music that captures people’s attention without telling them how they should dance. Ideally, the dancers forget everything around them for a moment and are simply present in the music, in their dance, and with each other. For me, immersion is ultimately about being present, listening, and allowing yourself to be in the moment.
2. Was verbindet NEO-NON Contemporary Musik mit der Heilandskirche aus deiner Sicht? What connects NEO-NON Contemporary Music with the Heilandskirche for you?
Ich finde, beide erweitern den gewohnten Rahmen. NEO-NON Contemporary Music bringt andere Klänge und Strukturen in den Tango und eröffnet dadurch neue Möglichkeiten, Musik und Tanz wahrzunehmen. Man weiß vielleicht nicht immer sofort, wohin ein Stück führt – und genau das macht es spannend. Die Heilandskirche macht etwas Ähnliches mit dem Raum. Sie ist kein klassischer Tangosaal, sondern ein Ort mit einer ganz eigenen Atmosphäre und Akustik. Die Musik bekommt dadurch mehr Raum und wirkt anders, als sie es in einem normalen Club oder einer Milonga tun würde. Für mich passt das deshalb sehr gut zusammen: eine Musik, die den Tango etwas anders denken lässt, trifft auf einen Raum, der ebenfalls nicht dem Gewohnten entspricht.
I think both expand the familiar framework. NEO-NON Contemporary Music brings different sounds and structures into tango and opens up new ways of experiencing the music and the dance. You may not always know where a piece is going right away — and that is exactly what makes it exciting. The Heilandskirche does something similar with the space. It is not a typical tango venue, but a place with its own atmosphere and acoustics. The music has more room to breathe and feels different there than it would in a regular club or milonga. That is why the two work so well together for me: music that invites us to think about tango in a slightly different way meets a space that is equally outside the familiar.
